How eBay fees work in 2026
Most eBay sellers without a Store subscription pay two fees on every sale:
- Final value fee: 13.6% of the total sale amount up to $7,500, and 2.35% on anything above.
- Per-order fee: $0.30 if the order total is $10 or less, $0.40 if it is more.
The catch: the “total sale amount” is not just your item price. It includes the shipping the buyer pays and the sales tax eBay collects. On a $50 item with $8 shipping and 7% tax, eBay charges 13.6% on $62.06 — not on $50. That is why this calculator asks for the buyer’s sales tax.

Other eBay fees to know
- Promoted Listings: your ad rate is charged on the same total as the final value fee — shipping and tax included.
- International fee: 1.65% when the buyer is outside the US, unless you ship through eBay International Shipping.
- Insertion fees: your first 250 listings each month are free, then $0.35 each.
- Store subscribers get lower final value fees in many categories; this calculator uses the no-Store rates.
Questions sellers ask
How much does eBay take from a sale?
For most categories, eBay takes 13.6% of the total sale amount (item price, shipping and sales tax) plus $0.40 per order ($0.30 for orders of $10 or less). On a $50 item with $8 shipping and 7% sales tax, that is $8.84 — about 15% of what you receive.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The final value fee is calculated on the total the buyer pays, which includes the shipping you charge. Offering free shipping and raising the item price costs the same in fees.
Does eBay charge fees on sales tax?
Yes. Sales tax collected from the buyer is part of the total sale amount, so you pay the final value fee on it even though the tax itself goes to the state.
Are Promoted Listings fees charged on shipping too?
Yes. Since June 2022, the Promoted Listings ad rate applies to the total sale amount, including shipping and sales tax.
